汉字的由来啊，这得从很久很久以前说起。其实，汉字最早可以追溯到大约5000年前的甲骨文时期。那时候，人们用刀在龟甲或兽骨上刻字，用来占卜或者记录事情。这些刻在甲骨上的文字，就是我们说的甲骨文。
后来啊，到了西周时期，汉字发展出了金文，也就是铸在青铜器上的文字。再往后，到了秦朝，秦始皇统一六国后，为了方便全国各地的交流，他下令统一了文字，这就是小篆。小篆后来又演变成了隶书，隶书再后来又发展出了楷书、行书和草书，这五种字体就是我们今天常用的汉字书写形式。
至于汉字的英文，一般有两种说法。一种叫"Chinese character"，另一种叫"Chinese ideograph"。其中"character"就是字的意思，而"ideograph"呢，它强调的是汉字是一种表意文字，每个字都代表一个意思。
说实话，我当时也没想明白汉字为什么会有这么多种书写形式，但是后来想想，可能是因为不同的时代、不同的用途，人们需要不同的书写方式来适应吧。就像我们现在，有电脑打字，有手写，各有各的方便。总之，汉字的历史悠久，变化多端，用的人多了，就成了我们中华文化的一大特色。
